Geocache Description:

25 May 2024, 10:00 - 13:00

Since 2013, the GAGB has encouraged the organisation of Cache In Trash Out (CITO) events every year. In 2024 the GAGB will be running two CITO Weeks: Saturday 25th May 2024 to Friday 31st May 2024 and Saturday 26th October 2024 to Friday 1st November 2024. When attending CITOs during these times two GAGB profile badges are up for grabs - one for organisers, and another for attendees.

Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere. Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to Horsbere Brook Reserve (alternative parking).

Where: Meet up 09:30 by the gates leading in to the Reserve (alternative parking coords), or find us in the Community Woodland (published coords).

What: Over the past few years, thousands of trees have been planted to create new woodlands at Horsbere Brook, many by Geocachers, and with regular care the trees continue to grow and thrive. Tree planting in the Community Woodland area began in 2015, and many trees are mature enough to no longer need support so can have their stakes removed. Others still require support and we will be checking their stakes are secure.

So join us for some weekend tree care in the community woodland. We began planting the 3500 tree woodland in 2015 and now many of the trees no longer require stakes for support. An increasing deer population onsite means they continue to need protection with tree guards. Help us care for the trees by weeding, removing redundant stakes and refreshing deer guards. We will also be clearing the mulch pile for the future picnic site.

How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and tools if necessary. There are lots of other friendly volunteers on hand to give help and advice too! Please bring your own work gloves and, if you have them, appropriate tools (hammer, scissors and shears). Don't worry if you don't have tools however as the Ranger will have a supply too.

Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction.

Please make sure you bring along your own refreshments as it can be thirsty work, cake will be provided! We look forward to seeing you :)
