Opened in 1904 as Hoole Park, in 1911 it was extended and became Hoole Alexandra Park.
It was named after Queen Alexandra, the wife of King Edward VIl who reigned from 1901 to 1910. In 1893 the area that now forms the park was part of a huge showground for the Royal Agricultural Society's Show. Edward visited the show; at that time he was the Prince of Wales.
