The 47th in the Rest 'n Peace - Centre County series takes you to a very old burial ground containing the remains of some of Bellefonte's first families. The land was sold to the Quaker congregation by the Valentine's, who were also members and often buried here, so this gravesite is also known as the Valentine Friends Graveyard. Early documents are contradictory, but burials here are from at least 200 years if not more.

The 1874 Pomeroy Atlas of Centre County shows the exact location of this burial ground, and some optimistic plots further south and east of its location. Most of them would not be realized.

The cemetery boasts an impressive outer stone wall on all four sides, but alas the southern portion has succumbed to time's erosion and portions have collapsed. I spoke with the neighbor who helps maintain the cemetery grounds and lands adjacent, and visitation is still allowed, but please be careful if you decide to enter the grounds proper. There are two gates, but both are padlocked closed as they are severely rusted. (The grounds crew actually just walk into the cemetery via the parts where the wall was removed)
As with any and all cemetery caches, please be respectful of those interred here should you choose to walk the serene grounds. The cache is not located inside the cemetery, but rather outside the wall near the plaque, so as to allow maximal access (both time and ability-wise). A list of burials for this location does exist, and can be found on publicly available websites.
