This cache replaces ‘Chewy in Keavy’ which was hidden in the metal pipe at the base of the art deco sign. Someone posted that geocache on TikTok, after which it was repeatedly muggled, and therefore archived.
The recently demolished Geelong West Bowls Club would have been thriving back in the 1950’s, when Louis John Keavy (1908 – 1991) was the Club Champion. He was also the Geelong West Mayor in the 1970’s, and I believe that this cache location was named after him in 1975, during Geelong West’s Centenary Celebrations.
The L.J. Keavy Play Area is a great little park tucked away in Geelong West. It will appeal to younger kids up to 8 or so, with a small slide, swings, sandpit & digger, and structures to climb. There’s also a small covered picnic table, drink tap and grass.
The L.J. Keavy Play Area can be a high muggle area and GZ is also visible from nearby roads, so stealth may be required.
