Geocache Description:

TOTU: Trails of the Unconfirmed!

This cache is one stop on a circuit that leads you around about 6 miles of Romney Marsh, between Brookland, Fairfield and Brenzett. Along the way you will see a number of irrigation sewers, farms, churches, numerous fields, little bridges and tracks. Ideally you will need to start from Brookland and follow the series from there. The walk has been set up to be followed in either direction and the network of lanes and footpaths would also allow you to split the route into smaller 'circuits' too if you wish. Roadside parking can usually be found along on the south side of the A259 on Straight Lane, near the church in Brookland.

The route will take you along local country lanes and farm tracks. Please be aware that you will be out in the marshlands and some GZs may become overgrown, particularly in the summer. I would recommend long trousers and good footwear. Taking some gloves might also be a good idea as the stingers and the thorns in the area can be quite vicious! There are no stiles to climb or fields to cross and the route is suitable for bicycles. The route should also be fine for pushchairs and wheelchairs, although the GZs themselves might not be.

The series follows quiet lanes so be aware of vehicles and farm machinery. Along the way you will find yourself crossing railway tracks so again please be careful. No caches are hidden on railway property or any other private land so don't be tempted to search there.

I would not recommend walking this series after dark. The marsh can be an unforgiving place. Deep, water filled ditches and other hazards are waiting for anyone who strays too far from the the beaten track.

You are responsible for your own health and safety. Please take care, especially with kids and animals.

It is a remote area but phone signal is generally quite good due to the lack of any hills. That said I would always recommend you download all waypoints before leaving home.

OK?
