Rest 'n Peace #61 - Centre County Series will bring you to one of the larger cemeteries in Gregg township, Holy Cross Lutheran. It has had a few alternate names over the years, George's Valley and/or The Cross, and has served as both a Lutheran and a Union church graveyard since it's formal establishment in 1853.

Of particular note for this burial yard are that a large portion of early known burials are all children or persons under the age of 20. Mayhaps appropriately then, the current caretakers have decorated the grounds in a rather whimsical fashion, with angels tucked into tree alcoves, hidden gnomes peeking out from under wood siding, and shoes. Dozens of odd ceramic shoes adorn the tops of fence posts all around the site.

I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation for the footwear parade, but I was unable to uncover the truth during my visit. If you happen to know, please leave a comment with your log!
As with any cemetery cache, please be respectful of those buried here when making this find.
