The 65th in the Rest 'n Peace - Centre County cemetery series is an interesting location, as it was mostly lost to history and only rediscovered by the forces of nature. Early Scots-Irish settlers to the area estabished a Presbyterian church and graveyard here in the late 1700's, and when their membership dwindled it was sold/transferred to a German Union congregation. They too moved away and built new churches, and eventually the meeting house was razed and the cemetery fell into disuse and obscurity. Only in the 1970's, nearly 175 years after the the few known burials, did a major flood at this spot reveal several German language headstones in the washed out soils.
The approximate location of the cemetery is shown in red, but today it is just a grassy portion of a locals back yard. When the stones were discovered they were apparently cemented into the floor of the neighboring house, but I was unable to confirm their location or existance on the day I placed the cache (which is at the blue diamond).
As this cemetery only exists in history, and the area is now private land, the actual cache is placed at a roughly paved dirt pull-off just off of route 45. There is room for a single vehicle with no impedance to traffic, and there is a place to turn around just a few dozen yards along Penns Valley road. Even though the cache is not at the cemetery, extra reverence should be paid while finding this, knowing that the names and histories of those interred at the waypoint are almost certainly lost for all time.
