Burning Man is an annual week-long large-scale desert event attended by free-minded people from all over the world. It is focused on "community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance". The event's name comes from its culminating ceremony: the symbolic burning of a large wooden effigy, referred to as the Man, that occurs on the penultimate night, the Saturday evening before Labor Day. Since 1991, the event is held in a temporary city just outside of Gerlach, Nevada in the Black Rock Desert north-northeast of Reno each year.
Hello and welcome to the Road to Burning Man Geocaching Trail. Since the Burning Man Festival attracts thousands of revelers annually in late August/early September, it would be best to avoid the trail during the actual festival. The trail is placed in a cooperative effort of several cachers in the Great Basin area. We are grateful you could join us on this caching adventure. We hope you have a wonderful time and we look forward to seeing all your pictures and reading your stories.
Please take the time to replace each cache the same way we hid it so the next geocachers can enjoy their search. Feel free to add additional rocks on or around the caches. This trail is just like any other geocaching power trail. If you do swap it out, please replace it with a similar type container (the original containers are 50 ml tubes), If repairs are needed please let us know with a "Needs Maintenance" log.
Words Of Warning
- Be careful out here, this is the desert!
- Make sure you have plenty of water and drink it!
- Cell reception is very poor to non-existent on some stretches out here.
- Pull completely off the road as this is a “State” Highway. Be aware that there is loose gravel or loose sand at some spots.
- Pay attention when pulling out in front of traffic.
- Make sure you have a full tank of gas before starting out on the trail. Gas prices are excellent in Fernley.
To assure this Geocache Trail remains active and available for all who seek these caches, this cache (and the others in this trail) is maintained by the cache owner Great Basin Cachers
These additional local cachers will assist with the cache maintenance: chasandmeg, tentwenty, sixeasy and Alamogul
Cachers are encouraged to communicate any caches requiring attention by placing an "Owner Action Requested" note on this cache page.
