I've always enjoyed hiking in this area. It's rugged and beautiful. I've seen snakes, vultures, eagles, herons...I even saw a fisherman pull a HUGE fish out of the water once (20+ pounds easily...just a baby compared to an 84-pounder that was once caught in the Potomac).
I've been working on this "Rocky" trail for a while, this is the latest installment! Also see sister caches:
- Rocky Horror (GC9Z58R)
- Rocky Road (GC8GQXC)
- Rocks, Locks, and a Box like Ft. Knox! (GC8HBV1)
- I don't think any single cacher has found all of these at the time of publication of this cache...they are tough!
The hike in to this area is also no joke. There are...well...rocks! Lots of rocks. Big ones, small ones, sharp ones, dumb ones. Be careful! The hike is tough. It involves slippery rocks, steep angles, and dangerous precipices. Bring a friend for safety. Don't attempt this by yourself! Don't hurt yourself. It's just a geocache. Attempting this cache at night would be suicide, don't even think about that.
Please don't attempt this cache unless you accept there is a good chance you will not be able to retrieve it. It's very difficult. Like it's older sister, Rocky Road (GC8GQXC), I expect far more DNFs (whether logged or not) than finds. Rocky Road only has had a few legit finds and at least 20 DNFs!
Please do not post any additional hints, veiled in any way whatsoever. If you do, I will delete your log. Let others have the same experience you had finding it. Of course, please do not post any pics of the cache either.
There are multiple "paths" to GZ. You may find it easier during lower water levels/tides.
Please take care to put the cache back exactly as you found it. When you find it, you'll understand this better.
For those brave souls willing to take on this challenge, I will note that the coords in this area are tigger-bouncy. For this reason, I've included a pic of a tree close to GZ. It's a fun tree to climb, and I climbed it, and you should, too...but this will not help you with this cache in any way. The cache is not touching the tree. The tree is just a reference point to let you know you are reasonably close to GZ, whatever that means.
Please post up your DNFs and any interesting non-spoiler pics of you in the area!
Have fun and cache on!
