Goose Island is a unique and beautiful place located in the middle of the Ohio River. But that beauty gets diminished somewhat by the trash that floats down the Ohio River and accumulates here. Because Goose Island is so difficult to access, it rarely gets cleaned (until the high water levels return in the fall and wash the trash further downstream).
In conjunction with Falls of the Ohio Extreme Hike - 2024, let's do our part to help clean up. Trash bags will be distributed on site. Please be aware that there are no trash receptacles on the island, so we will need to carry the trash back to the Indiana side of the river. Don't put more in your bag than you can comfortably and safely carry. A waypoint is included on the cache page to show where to deposit the trash collected (the garbage cans at the shelter).
Note: This event has a 4.5 terrain rating for a reason. To get to Goose Island requires crossing fast moving knee-deep water or the use of a watercraft. Please see the cache page for Falls of the Ohio Extreme Hike - 2024 for more information on what to expect and what to bring/wear.
