Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' man,
The Skipper brave and sure
five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour,
A three hour [Geocaching] tour.
Come out and join a group of geocachers that have gathered from near and far for a nice time on sunny Ship Island! The event is from 11am to Noon under the Pavilion at the posted coordinates. The Pavilions are first come first serve, but there are several available at the same location in case the one marked is occupied. I will try to get there early to hold the one we want.
You can get to Ship Island by boat, kayak, canoe, or ferry service out of Gulfport. Kayak and canoe would be the long, hard way…boat or ferry service would be the quickest, easiest way. Ship Island is approximately 11 miles south of Gulfport, so plan appropriately if you take any method other than the Ferry Service. The ferry service would be the more expensive route, and the cost for tickets is $44 per adult and $38 per child (ages 3-12). If you decide on the Ferry Service, it’s best to purchase tickets in advance online, as they do sometimes sell out to the point where you wouldn’t be able to purchase them in person at the dock. The Ferry Service does offer Active Duty Military and Senior discounts. Infants age 2 and under are free.
The ferry service runs at 9am and 12pm, and leaves the island at 2:30pm and 5pm. So you will want to take the 9amferry out if you go by that method. There are refreshments available on the island. Bring sunscreen!
