Geocache Description:

You are invited!City of Garland Logo Image

Visit Historic Garland, Texas and celebrate Garland history with us on Saturday, October 19, 2024!

Garland is a beautiful community in North Texas, full of history. And the City has joined the world of geocaching.

The first geocache was hidden on May 3, 2000. More than 3 million geocaches have been published all over the world. There are hundreds in Garland and we're releasing twenty more during the Garland GeoTour 2.0 Launch Party. Come and join us!

Garland is the 13th largest city in Texas by population, but still has that small-town feel. We started the Discover Garland's History GeoTour in the fall of 2022, and grew it substantially over the last year. If you haven't found and logged the 40 caches that are part of the original Garland GeoTour, you have until October 4th to get 'er done. Because on that day, all the original caches are going to be archived as we make way for the twenty all-new caches that comprise the Garland GeoTour 2.0.

Don't forget to post your "Will attend" log because five attendees will win a special prize!

Details

We'll hold our launch event at The Granville Arts Center starting at 8:30 am. It's early, so there will be coffee, food and fellowship. Everybody gets one of Kim's trademark goodie bags with lots of cool stuff in it. Plenty of parking is available. Kids are welcome, and those who are totally new to geocaching are especially welcome.

  • 8:30 am - We'll have Breakfast tacos, coffee and orange juice available. Donuts too!
  • 8:50 am - We've asked Garland's mayor and a few other local notables to welcome our attendees to Garland and tell you a little bit about what you'll find while in our fair city. A couple of local geocachers will also take the microphone and share some of their most unforgettable geocaching adventures.
  • 9:00 am - We'll discuss the rules and the Garland History GeoTour 2.0 passport, and impart any last-minute tidbits of advice and useful information that might help you on your journey. And we'll answer any questions at this time.
  • 9:15 am - Time to mingle.
  • 9:40 am - Gather to take a group photo. See "additional waypoints" for the exact location.
  • 10:00 am - Geocaches are released. Scatter and don't forget your passport!
  • 4:00 pm - We'll be gathering at Fortunate Son on the Square for some great food and drink. Those who have earned enough points can turn in their passports for our new GeoTour 2.0 geocoin. If you're not there yet, join us anyway. (You can finish later.) We will have several door prizes and lots of fun swapping stories about the amazing Garland GeoTour 2.0!
  • 7:00 pm - Party's over! Be sure to come back and get any of our caches you weren't able to grab on launch day, and tell your friends about the Garland History GeoTour.

We'll have passports printed and ready for you when you check in, but if you'd like to download yours early, here it is. Download Passport.
