東京都庁第一本庁舎は、その外壁がすべて石で覆われています。
そこに使われているのは、２種類の花崗岩です。このEarthCacheでは、花崗岩とその産地による違いを学びます。
The exterior walls of the First Main Building of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government are entirely covered with stone.
Two types of granite are used in the building. In this EarthCache, you will learn about granite and the differences in its origin.
花崗岩/Granite
花崗岩とは、マグマが地下深くでゆっくりと冷えた深成岩のひとつです。黒雲母などのような有色鉱物を1割程度含むものの、主成分が石英と長石であり、全体的に白っぽく見えるのが特徴です。
Granite is one of the deep metamorphic rocks formed when magma cooled slowly deep underground. Although it contains about 10% colored minerals such as biotite, its main components are quartz and feldspar, giving it an overall whitish appearance.

産地による違い
花崗岩は産地により含有鉱物の種類や割合が異なり、さまざまな色になります。
Granite varies in the type and proportion of minerals it contains depending on its region of origin, resulting in a variety of colors.
石材として使われる花崗岩には、産地によってさまざまなブランド名がつけられています。
東京都庁に使用されている花崗岩は、スウェーデン産の「ロイヤルマホガニー」とスペイン産の「ホワイトパール」です。濃い方がロイヤルマホガニー、薄い方がホワイトパールです。
Granite used as a stone material is given various brand names depending on its place of origin.
The granite used for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is Royal Mahogany from Sweden and White Pearl from Spain. The darker granite is Royal Mahogany and the lighter is White Pearl.
