I created this cache to honor the memory of Sgt. Robert G. Lord.
When passing over the bridge near this cache I often notice the sign designating it as the "Robert G. Lord Memorial Bridge."
I finally decided to do some research to learn who Robert Lord was and why this bridge was dedicated to him. I was quite surprised by what I found.
Sgt. Robert G. Lord, a native of Hampton Falls, was a Flight Engineer in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the "Radar Crew" at his base in CA. Sadly, he perished in a B-24M airplane crash on May 12, 1945 during a training mission in CA. He was just 21 years old. All 11 crew members died in the tragic crash.
He is buried nearby in Dodge Cemetery, Hampton Falls.
The cache is a small container with room for pathtags, coins or very small trade items. Easy parking on a wide shoulder close to the cache.
