SWAG VS Trackables
SWAG: (Something We All Get) are small TRADE items placed in a geocache container. If you take one, you MUST replace it with something of equal or greater value.
You get to KEEP the SWAG you traded for, or place it in another geocache.
It’s OK to add SWAG to any cache which is large enough to comfortably hold the SWAG item. Cramming into the container or leaving out in the open is NOT good SWAG etiquette.
THINGS NOT TO USE AS SWAG: lighters, matches, food, gum, cigarettes, liquid filled items especially hand sanitizer, candy, etc…. I hope you get the idea.
Trackables: Items placed in a geocache or brought to an event which have been sent out on a mission to travel from Geocache to Geocache or Event and eventually make it back to its owner.
Trackables may be “DISCOVERED” or “Retrieved” from a geocache, a geocacher or an event.
Trackables have a code which you need to use to log your activity with it. The code may be printed on the back or edge of the item or it may be printed on a dog tag attached to an item called the hitchhiker.
Trackable codes may also be found on clothing items, backpacks, car windows or bumpers, name tags and other places. These locations are usually ONLY available to be discovered.
Log it if you just want to discover it and leave it at its current location.
Log it if you just retrieved it from its current location.
Log it WHEN you drop it into another geocache or at an event.
ALWAYS read its Geo page to learn how the owner wants it to travel. Some owners do NOT want their trackable to be dropped at an event.
ALWAYS keep the owner informed of where you’re taking the trackable by logging a “visit” to a geocache or event so they know it hasn’t disappeared.
Take photos of the trackable at cool places or events and post them to the trackables page.
NEVER KEEP a trackable unless the owner says it’s OK. Occasionally an inactivated trackable will be placed in a geocache as a First to Find Prize.
