Another one in my Play It Loud Series. Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing. I first heard Dire Straits when I was in High School. They have been one of my favorite bands since then and Mark Knopfler (lead guitar, vocals, and primary songwriter) is my favorite guitarist. His unique style has captivated me for years. The studio album version of Sultans of Swing is great but live versions are even better. My all-time favorite is the version from their 1984 album: Alchemy Dire Straits: Live—10:46 of phenomenal music. Aside from the great guitar work, Terry Williams' drumming is outstanding. Along with bassist John Illsley and rhythm guitarist Hal Lindes, they perform my favorite song of all time. I have attached a link to their live performance from the Alchemy Tour. Play it Loud and pay special attention to Mark Knopfler's great guitar work from 6:55 to the final notes...
...And then the man he steps right up to the microphone
And says at last just as the time bell rings
Thank you goodnight now it’s time to go home
and he makes it fast with one more thing ‘We are the Sultans of Swing'
