Geocache Description:

In the geocaching community, the term "hitchhiker" can have several meanings:

According to Geocachers of South Africa, a "hitchhiker is an item that is placed in a cache, and has instructions to travel to other caches. Sometimes they have logbooks attached so you can log their travels. A travel bug is an example of a hitchhiker."  Meanwhile, a Norwegian geocacher shared on an online forum that, "In the Netherlands we only use the word hitchhiker for the moving caches.  There are only a few left since they are not allowed anymore. But those that are still there are very popular because of their uniqueness and old age."

On the same thread, a geocacher from Ohio mentioned that "...traveling plastic monkeys were all the rage. The monkeys had their own home cache and their own tracking site.  Once Groundspeak created the travel bug dog tag, this largely replaced the home-grown efforts."  Additionally, a geocacher from the UK noted, "Another way this is used in the English language is...when talking about ticks or fleas. When discovered the nose is wrinkled in disgust and the statement, 'Hmmm appears to have some hitchhikers.'  But this is regional and you can go years and not hear it."

This geocache is specifically intended to keep ticks, a type of hitchhiker, from traveling home with you, and is big enough for relatively small geocaching-related hitchhikers.  Please use stealth and be mindful of muggles (non-geocachers) to prevent it from being stolen.  First to find gets something custom made.  As always, happy caching!
