Explore Batiquitos Lagoon Kickoff Event - Community Celebration Event 2025
Join us on May 10, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM for the kickoff of the Explore Batiquitos Lagoon Cache Series! This special event will be held in partnership with the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation, and we’ll be releasing over 20 new geocaches, including a mix of Traditional Caches, Adventure Labs, Letterbox Hybrids, EarthCaches, gadget caches, Multi-Caches, and Mystery Caches, all focused on the beauty and features of the lagoon and its surrounding areas.
What to Expect:
- New Geocaches: Over 20 caches, featuring different types like Mystery Caches, EarthCaches, gadget caches, Multi-Caches, Adventure Labs, and more. Get ready for some First-to-Finds!
- Prizes: Exciting prizes will be available—details coming soon!
- Snacks: Enjoy free snacks while you mingle and share your geocaching stories.
- Exploration: Discover the lagoon’s unique features through the newly released caches.
- Events: Along with this Community Celebration Event, we will be hosting the Batiquitos Lagoon Trail Clean-Up CITO (GCB37F1) and the Explore Batiquitos Lagoon Dinner Party (GCB37F3). Be sure to attend those, as well!
- Nature Talk: At 10:00, join Cynthia Myers from San Diego’s Project Wildlife to learn about bat anatomy, their role in the environment, and conservation efforts—plus, see live rescued bats! (Ages 10+)
The main meeting spot will be outside the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation Nature Center, where you can meet up, explore the area, and get ready for the geocaching adventure.
About the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation (BLF):
The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation (BLF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and enhancing Batiquitos Lagoon, a coastal wetland in Carlsbad, California. The lagoon serves as a vital habitat for diverse wildlife, including migratory birds, fish, and native plants, while also providing opportunities for education and recreation. Managed in collaboration with local and state agencies, Batiquitos Lagoon is one of the few remaining tidal wetlands in Southern California. The BLF operates a nature center, leads conservation efforts, and offers guided tours and volunteer programs to engage the community in protecting this ecologically significant area.
