Geocache Description:

Batiquitos Lagoon Clean-Up

After the Explore Batiquitos Lagoon Kickoff Event (GCAXHFM), join us for a CITO (Cache In, Trash Out) event to help keep Batiquitos Lagoon clean and beautiful! Participants will start at the Batiquitos Lagoon Nature Center and work their way along the trail, picking up litter and preserving this amazing natural space. The CITO will start at noon, and we’ll be wrapping up at 1:00 PM.

What to Expect:

  • Cleanup: We’ll provide gloves, trash bags, and other supplies, but we encourage you to bring your own if possible.
  • Walking the Trail: Folks will be able to walk along the trail, picking up trash as they move along.
  • Community Involvement: Help us make a positive impact on the environment and enjoy some time outdoors with fellow geocachers.
  • Scout Participation: Scouts from Scouts BSA plan to help clean up the area in order to earn the Geocaching Merit Badge. Experienced geocachers are encouraged to share tips and info about the hobby!
  • Snacks: Before or after doing your part in preserving the environment, enjoy free snacks while chatting with other geocachers.

Leave No Trace

Leave No Trace is a set of outdoor ethics that help protect nature by minimizing human impact. It encourages planning ahead, staying on trails, packing out trash, respecting wildlife, and being mindful of others. By following these principles, we can keep natural spaces clean, healthy, and enjoyable for future generations.

About the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation (BLF):

The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation (BLF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and enhancing Batiquitos Lagoon, a coastal wetland in Carlsbad, California. The lagoon serves as a vital habitat for diverse wildlife, including migratory birds, fish, and native plants, while also providing opportunities for education and recreation. Managed in collaboration with local and state agencies, Batiquitos Lagoon is one of the few remaining tidal wetlands in Southern California. The BLF operates a nature center, leads conservation efforts, and offers guided tours and volunteer programs to engage the community in protecting this ecologically significant area. Learn more about the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation at this website.

We look forward to seeing you there!
