Geocache Description:

The Park

Silver Lake Regional Park was opened in 2009 on land purchased by George and Mildred Gossom. The park opens at 7am and closes at sunset. Silver Lake Park features a 23-acre lake that is fed by the Little Bull Run and 4 miles of multi-purpose trails. It is a take-in / take-out park. That is, when you leave the park, you should take everything you brought and the trash that you collected with you. In addition to this letterbox hybrid, there are four traditional geocaches and two mystery caches at the park.

The Name

Deimos is one of the two moons of Mars. Asphal Hall, who discovered the moons, named the moons for the mythological sons of Ares, the Greek counterpart of the Roman god, Mars. Deimos means dread, and is the brother of Phobos, fear. It revolves once around Mars every 30 hours 17 minutes at a mean distance of 14,576 miles. This moon's long axis is always directed toward Mars and, as with Earth’s Moon, it has a rotational period equal to its orbital period and so keeps the same face to the planet.

The Cache

Located near the archived cache that was called Mars, the name seemed fitting. The cache is an easy walk from the parking lot. It contains a rubber stamp, a log, a pencil, a trackable and some swag. Please bring your own inkpad to exchange stamps and, if you aren't FTF, you should probably bring a pen just to be sure.

CAUTION

This cache is not recommended for children due to the wire fencing and debris in the area.
