ABOUT THIS LOCATION
One of the first dams built in Marathon County was here, where the Eau Claire River meets the Wisconsin River. It was built next to a small mill that was operating in the 1840s. Dr. William Scholfield bought the dam and mill in 1842, and as the community developed over the next few decades, it became known as Schofield (dropping the first L). In 1946, the dam was given over to the City of Schofield. The original spelling of Scholfield was reserected when the apartment building on the water's edge was built and named Scholfield Mill Apartments in 2022.
From this location, you can launch your boat or kayak from either above or below the dam. This is also a popular fishing location from the walkway across the dam. Enjoy this beautiful location as you hunt for the cache.
Note: Depending on where the snow is plowed, this cache may or may not be reachable during the snowy months.
