The Striding Arches are the work of landscape artist Andy Goldsworthy. There are four of them in this upland area: three are on the summits of Benbrack, Colt Hill and Bail Hill and can be seen from each other on a clear day. The fourthe arch is incorporated into an old byre that can be found at the bottom of the valley at Cairn Head.
The arches are made from local sandstone and are free standing meaning that they balance with no mortar or metal work to hold them together.
The arch on Benbrack is on the Southern Upland Way, but this doesn't necessarily mean it's easy to get to. It is possible to do the four in a circular but it's over rough, boggy terrain and through forests.
