Geocache Description:

Welcome to the "Going for Gold" Event Series (Now with an updated cache page). Apart from geocaching one of my major hobbies is Archery (a.k.a advanced stick throwing) and I am now competing in tournaments and competitions. Because of the need to travel around the place and it already being a day out I thought to also hold an event after as a bit of fun.
That is what would normally be said if this was a normal "Going for Gold" Event, But this isnt, this is "The Geocachers Revenge". For some this will not be their first forte to archery as they would have helped rescue Robin Hood back in 2009. Well now its time for revenge since Robin decided it would be a good idea to pilfer the pathtags from multiple caches around the area and soyou get to help get some revenge by beating him at his own game.

A Bit More Background:

Throughout this year I have hosted multiple "Going for Gold" Events at tournaments that I have partaken In but there are also many more tournaments that I have been to that didn't get a event with some being extreamly notable. Some of you have noticed that I have been doing less geocaching and this is a major part of it and I thought I would do a bit of a show and tell of what I have been up to for the last year (Hint, its alot).

Turbine Tournament 2024:
It all took off back in december last year when I had my first few "Going for Gold" events as it was the first time in along time I had done any competitions. You can even see the cresting on my arrows they hadnt been shot much by that time. This was a really big tournament for me as it taught me many lessons but mainly one in hydration as I nearly fainted of heatstroke.

Outdoor Nationals:
This was a huge event for me as it was my first forte into the administration side of archery, and where better to start than at the Outdoor Nationals where there were more than 180 people shooting in jsut one event. At this event I got to learn alot about the backend side of things and how all the rules work which has helped me become a judge. At the time I didn't know it but by helping with this event it would lead to a huge oppurtunity. This event was an amazing 7 days after the months of work that had gone into having it run smoothly.

Indoor Nationals:
After being on the administration team for Outdoors it was only fitting that I was a judge for the Indoors. I got biffed in the deep end big time with this event as I had only judged 2 events prior to this event. I learnt alot from this weekend and cant wait for the next one.

WAA Cup 1/2/4:
After shooting one of my worst scores at the WAA Cup Round 1 (409) I kept praticing with training partner who recently shot at the Ocenaia Cup over in Fiji. A couple months later I managed in pratice to shoot a 528 which at the WAA Cup Round 2 I converted into a 516 which I was a bit shocked at as I had been trying so hard for a long time to break into the 500s. Unfortunately I couldnt celebrate much after that as I was speeding back to wellington to attend Infoferrets CCE that was also on that day. I was then pretty happy to finish off the set for the year by getting a 502 when I was still recovering from a illness that had me in bed half the week.

The Trans Tasman Challenge (Going Intl):
After my success at the Outdoor Nationals I was selected by the Technical Delegate for the Trans Tasman Challenge to be the Lead Tournament Administrator/Results Manager. This role involved multiple months of work getting everything and everyone on the same page as there had been quite a few wrenchs thrown into the works. Thankfully everything up to the event had gone smoothly, until I was told 5 minutes before I boarded my flight to christchurch that some of the australian athletes were stuck in sydney. Thankfully that got sorted throughout the day so we didnt need to worry about it in the end. This event was 7 days of watching some amazing shooting and also being extreamly busy with dealing with the results and other administration dutys. Thankfully I had been provided with an amazing team that made life extreamly easy when it came to alot of the processes and for the first time in the last 20 odd years we ran the tournament ahead of schedule.

The Loudon Trophy:
About 4 days after I got back from the TT I had another tournament which this time was a teams event so me and 2 others from Randwick put up a really good fight scoring only 60 points out of about 2400 behind the winning team and more than 100 ahead of 3rd place. It was a shame we didnt win but we were atleast happy to be the runners up. After the prizegiving it was a nice drive back even popping in at tmann421's CCE.

The Event:

For this event just like back in 2009 you will have the chance to "Have A Go" at archery. This is optional and if you choose to the information will be down below. Otherwise for everyone else you will be able to sit back and laugh or support other people shooting. If you would like to you can bring a plate that their will be a table setup for, otherwise there is a pleathra of Fish and Chip shops and other shops less than 5min away. This is a event I would highly reccommend bringing family too if they have any interest at all in archery.

Have A Go:

If you want to have a go then the following information is for you.
Cost - $10pp, Pay to 01-0505-0195050-00 Reference "HaveAGo", Particulars "Geocahing Username".
For the have a go over the 1st hour or so it will be just getting used to the bow and how to shoot. Then after that since we geocachers are a competitive bunch we there will be a ranking round 3 Ends of 3 Arrows and then some matchplay to see who is the best. After that depending on how much time there is we may do teams matchplay were you will eiter partner up or possibly even be in teams of 3.
Depending on how many people sign up for the have a go will depend on if it will be run in details where you may be sharing gear. More will be explained on the day.
