Join in an opportunity to help maintain a trail built several years ago
This year's event: Join us in maintaining a multi-use trail, built 5 years ago in Westlake Community Park and YMCA, north of Thousand Oaks Blvd and west of LIndero Canyon Road in Westlake Village (use the coordinates or the address: 31107 Thousand Oaks Blvd. When park opened in 2019, COSCA built a new trail to connect with existing trails to the north. The trail, when completed, with be 1.3 miles long. The work consists brushing, tread work and restoring the trail to original width.
Work will be followed by the volunteer thank you lunch courtesy of COSF, along with a drawing for prizes.
Of course, for this CITO event, certain areas will be assigned to Geocachers for renovation/improvement, and we will need to hike to the work site, do the trail building, and hike back to the picnic area. Assignments will be made day of the event, depending on the number of signups.
Schedule
7:30 a.m.: Meet in the parking lot and check-in at the registration table there. Complete and sign a Liability Release form, and receive your breakfast bag,
8:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Trail Work Orientation and safety instructions
Tools distributed
Trail Crew Leaders will direct you to your work site
12:00 – 2:00 p.m.Lunch and drinks will be provided, courtesy of COSF, along with a drawing for prizes - must be present to win.

Information
The trail building site where workers will hike as much as a mile in & a mile out with maybe 100’ gain/loss.
- Water will be available at the sign-in area. Be sure to bring a water bottle and fill up before going to your work site.
- Toilets will be available at the registration site and not at the work sites. Please use the facilities before proceeding to your project area.
- Wear protective clothing & eyewear, sturdy shoes, gloves, hat and sunscreen. Do not bring your own tools – tools will be provided.
- No experience is necessary. Instructions on trail building, and the safe and proper use of tools/equipment will be given.
- Beware of poison oak, ticks and rattlesnakes. Check with a ranger or trail crew leader if you need assistance with identification.
- Follow the directions of the park rangers and trail crew leaders at all times. They are trained for trail projects.
- If you or someone in your work group needs medical attention, contact a ranger or your trail crew leader.
