Geocache Description:

Ararimu in the late 19th century was quite isolated, with little entertainment available.  Work began on building a hall in August 1886 on land donated by the Kiely family, on the corner of Ararimu & Sinclair Roads.  Lots of dances and a few balls were held.  Over the years use of the hall diminished and it was still standing in 1967 and was being used as a woolshed by the Turner family,  In 1957 a new hall was built on the corner of Ararimu & Steel Roads on land donated by the Utpon family.  This hall was still being used for various activities until it was renovated in 1998.  The hall has seen balls, dances, Indoor bowls, Table Tennis, CWI meetings, games evenings, plays, end of  year school celebrations, Flower Shows, Playgroup, ballet and piano lessons and weddings.  It still gets a lot of use today.

This cache is placed on the corner of Gelling & Ararimu Roads - this is where our school bus stop was to catch the bus to Papakura High School.
