History of this area:

This part of "State Route 14  (aka: Horseshoe Bend) use to be the only route from Elizabeth to Mineralwells WV or vice versa which had few Twists and Turns leading up to a Sharp Curve that resembled a "Horseshoe", by the time Truckers was out of one curve they were into another curve once made it to Horseshoe Bend they was already into the lowest gear trying to make it to the top elevation 1,000ft, im sure truckers just despised this climb and especially Horseshoe Bend.

Later on this part of Rt14 was decommisioned and a New Rt14 was contructed just to the East of the Old Rt14 , which the Newer Rt14 done away with sharp curves and is mainly straight up and down.

Also, just at the top of where the Old and New Rt14 connects at, there is a hollow near by known as "Bloody Hollow", there was a lady that lived in this particular hollow named Kathrine "Hammond" Mullenax, known as "Aunt Kitty"she was well liked peaceful lady which passed away in 1910 and was buried on Louis Reed property in Bloody Hollow but in the "Hammond Cemetery" it was stated that Aunt Kitty killed a man with a hoe in cornfield, just after 1953 Louis Reed was the Clerk for Fourth Circuit Court, Reed checked to see if any sort records existed on Aunt Kitty Mullenax, record was found on this, Court in area was suspended between April 1861 to April 1863 due to Civil War, there was a Indictment which charged (Katherine Mullenax, Solomon Mullenax and Michael Hammond) for the Murder of "Naylor" which the case Never came to Trial, so Naylor was killed some time between 1861 and 1863, way it is stated by ones that knew of this, Aunt Kitty at this time was a young woman was out in cornfield working with her husband (Solomon Mullenax and her father Michael Hammond) when a man (Naylor) attacked Michael Hammond which was 58yrs of age at time, then "Aunt Kitty" swung the hoe at this man struck him in the head killing him, no one knows where Naylor's body was buried some think reason Naylor attacked Aunt Kitty father Michael was due to friction of Civil War, the Hammond Family the Aunt Kittys father belonged to Moved to Oregan 1905, Vida Hammond died in Oregon 1965 and Wiiled sum of money to the "Beulah Presbyterrian Church" for upkeep of the "Old Hammond Cemetery" which "Aunt Kitty" was buried in.
