Geocache Description:

The Vine Trail CACHES are for FOOT or BICYCLE traffic ONLY.

The Napa Valley Vine Trail will eventually consist of 47 miles of a reasonably level and essentially paved multimodal pathway.  This path will extend from Vallejo's ferry to Calistoga.  At this time (2024) there are two independent sections that are fully functional.  There is a section from Napa to Yountville and one from St. Helena to Calistoga.

Since I work in Yountville I travel State Route 29 frequently I have watched the trail progress over many months until one day there was the sign "The Vine Trail is now open".  Wow, what does that mean?  It is in need of something very important.  Yes, Caches!!

We have placed a few caches on the newest part of the trail to get you all out here to get some fresh air and exercise and see the beauty that is the Napa Valley.

The "Vine Trail" caches, St. Helena to Calistoga, are meant to be hunted while taking the trail be it on foot, on wheels or whatever.  They are NOT meant to be found using a motor vehicle.  Do NOT PARK just ANYWHERE!!  Find an appropriate spot.  Parking is sparse so plan on a long walk or ride.  We have found good parking in Bothe - Napa Valley State Park (fee) which happens to be halfway between Calistoga and St.Helena.  There may also be some parking in Calistoga by the baseball field.  An alternate transport through the valley is public transit.  You may visit vinetransit.com for schedules and routes.

The path itself passes through Bothe - Napa Valley State Park, past Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park (where one can see actual milling in progress), through and past vineyards of world famous wineries, under heritage oaks and along the scenic base of the Mayacamas Mountains to the west and the Vaca Mountains to the east.

This little troll just came from the local brewery (yes, a brewery in the Napa Valley) up the street still holding his tankard.  Well, he was almost finished with it and decided to stop here and take a rest.  A rest he did!  He stepped into a comfortable dark hole and stayed put.  Now you need to help him wake up and see the light of day.  But, I expect that when you find him you'll find he's still slightly inebriated so sign his log and put him back in his dark hole and thus let the next person try their luck.

Have fun and enjoy your day!!!
