This cache is being placed in honor of the Former governor’s Mansion 140th birthday! This is a historical site, please be respectful when visiting the grounds.
No purchase is necessary to visit, if the mansion is not open you can visit the site grounds and look around, in the summer there are beautiful gardens!
In October 1884 the construction of the mansion was completed, and Bismarck businessman Asa Fisher, wife Adelaide, stepdaughter Lillian, and Asa’s mother Betsy moved in. Asa and Adelaide lived in the home until 1893 when they sold it to the state for use as the executive mansion.
This house was the North Dakota governor's residence from 1893 to 1960. In 1975 the State Historical Society of North Dakota was given the house with the hope that it would operate as a historic house museum. Extensive research and restoration have been completed, restoring the house to its former appearance as it might have been in 1893. Throughout the house are restoration features which are highlighted to show visitors what work has been done. These features include samples of wallpaper that have been exposed to indicate changes in style and taste. (https://history.nd.gov/historicsites/fgm/)
