Staveley Ice & Curling Rink opened in 1951 and remained one of the few natural ice-skating locations in New Zealand until 2023. Increasingly warm winters led to limited use of the rink over the last decade. In 2021 the Staveley Hall Society undertook an ambitious $ 1m + project to develop and deliver the infrastructure works, ensuring a guaranteed three month opening season per annum.
