Geocache Description:

"Launch Around the Lake" is a geocaching series of nine caches that will take you around 17,088 acres of the Pymatuning Reservoir. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) (State Parks) owns three-quarters of the lake while the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) (State Parks) owns the remaining one-quarter. Eight caches are hidden in Pennsylvania and one cache is hidden in Ohio. Written somewhere in or on the cache there will be a cache word. Write down the word for each cache and keep track of them on a piece of paper or on your phone. Once you have the words for all nine caches, visit the Pymatuning State Park Office in Jamestown, Pennsylvania to receive an original cache pin, courtesy of the Pymatuning Lake Association!

Pymatuning State Park Office in Jamestown is open 8 am to 4 pm Monday thru Friday. From Memorial day weekend to Labor day, the office will also be open on Saturday and Sunday, 8 am to 4 pm.

Leave No Trace Principle # 6: Respect Wildlife

"Whenever you are in an outdoor space, you are in the natural habitat of many wild animals and should work to minimize your impact on them. Human impacts can result in negative human-wildlife interactions, aggressive animals, a decline in the ecosystem’s health, and relocated or euthanized animals. All these impacts can be avoided if visitors respect wildlife on all outdoor trips. The Basics:

  • Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them.
  • Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, and exposes them to predators and other dangers.
  • Control pets at all times, or leave them at home.
  • Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter."
