A multipart/puzzle/letter recognition test geocache in Brewer, Maine
The town of Brewer, Maine is famous, not only in the history of the state, but in the shaping of our country as well thanks to one of its native sons. This geocache hunt will introduce you to that native son and help you to appreciate the role he played in our history.
It is recommended you park at the following coordinates to minimize the amount of walking that you will have to do:

After parking, begin your hunt by proceeding to the coordinates provided and be prepared to collect some information. Use the information to fill in a puzzle grid in the next part of this cache trip. When properly completed, it provides coordinates so you can proceed to the final cache. But you must do this CAREFULLY.. Correct identification of the letters you will see is ABSOLUTELY required in order to fill in the grid correctly.
When arriving at the coordinates provided, look for a plaque bearing an inscription for the native son.
In the grid below, each letter stands for a one digit numeral. To complete this adventure, count all the "F's" you see in the words on the plaque and substitute this quantity for every letter "F" in the FINAL CACHE PUZZLE GRID. Next do the same with the letter "R", and so on with the rest of the letters. The result will be your next set of coordinates given in standard format for degrees, minutes, and fractional minutes - dd mm.mmm Note: To find one of the quantities, you will have to add answers for several of the letters together - "P + S".

WHEN you find the plaque, COUNT the letters CAREFULLY! We suggest you first COPY all the words onto the back of your printout for future reference. If you get wrong coordinates, you will find yourself walking to the North Pole, or the South Pole, or to Poland Springs, or Walpole. However, once you GET the CORRECT COORDINATES BY COUNTING CAREFULLY (how many "C's" are in that phrase.?), you will walk about 1000 feet to find the final cache. So, be sure to keep your eyes peeled.
When you reach the final cache coordinates you should be able to find the geocache container without too much trouble. It is in a very historic and public area, so please do not move any large rocks or other items as it is not necessary. The cache is accessible, not off of the beaten path, yet hidden to the casual visitor. Be aware that due to the public nature of the area some stealth is required to protect the location of the cache. The container is smallish in nature due to its urban location. Please bring smaller less bulky items such as hot wheel type cars, trading cards, etc. to swap.
