Greenfield lake winter CITO event.
Calling all cachers to come clean up scenic greenfield lake! This area has a very interesting history that many do not know about. Greenfield used to have a showboat that made rounds around the lake each night. It also used to be an avid swimming destination, with multiple docks. Greenfield used to feature an amusement park on the lake, in addition to a zoo. Unfortunately all of these amenities have been shut down and the area was granted to the city of Wilmington. Soon after alligators moved into the lake. Neighborhoods were built around lakeshore drive and the area became a public park. There is a big homeless issue in the area, contributing to a litter crisis. We have visited the area numerous times and we know it needs a CITO. Homebase will be at some benches on the boardwalk near the kayak, canoe, and paddle boat rental area. We will gather from 12:00-12:10 and then CITO around the area. This CITO will feature a competition. We will regroup at the boardwalk near 1:00, and whoever has gathered the most trash will receive a custom trackable walking stick. We hope to see you there!
All resources for the CITO will be provided including grabbers, (12 available), disposable gloves, and trash bags.
Attention all cachers: PLEASE! PLEASE! Be careful while CITOing around the water, or just avoid all trash around the water. This lake is infested with alligators which generally are not out to get you, but due to humans feeding these creatures they are a little too comfortable with people and will approach you. Our goal as host is to keep you safe!
