Welcome to Schlamm Lake at Clark State Forest! Schlamm Lake is one of seven lakes at Clark State Forest. Each of the lakes here play an important role in the forest ecosystem and in the water cycle as a whole. Water is an essential component to all life on Earth. Here in the forest, the water in Schlamm Lake serves many purposes both observed and unobserved. For example, the lake serves as a habitat and home to many aquatic critters and fish. The lake also provides an excellent source of food and water for land dwelling animals as well as birds. While the wildlife benefit greatly, the lake also provides recreational opportunities for us. These activities include fishing, boating, and trapping thus tying us into this wild web of water. This is an excellent example of the intricacies and connections that bridge the gap of human and nature. What better way is there to focus on the waters of Schlamm Lake than with Clark State Forest’s first “Just Add Water” geocache?!
How it Works:
To be able to snag this cache, which is a watertight match container, you’ll need to “Just Add Water.” When you remove the lid from the cache location and add water, the cache will float within your reach! You’ll need to bring a container of water or you can fill a container from Schlamm Lake. A large bottle (~4 quarts) of water or a small bottle twice will cause the cache to float. Schlamm Lake may freeze in the winter. Please replace the cache and the lid as you found them. The water will slowly drain from the cache location into the ground, no need to worry about that.
