Geocache Description:

For almost 25 years, people around the world have been using satellite technology to go on modern-day treasure hunts, seeking out hidden containers and signing the logbooks inside. This global pastime, known as geocaching, began on 3 May 2000 when Dave Ulmer, a GPS enthusiast from Oregon, hid a black plastic bucket containing various items, including a can of beans and a logbook, in the woods near Portland. He then posted the GPS coordinates online in a public forum, inviting others to find it.

This simple experiment followed the US government's decision to end Selective Availability on GPS signals just one day earlier, which dramatically improved GPS accuracy for civilians. The original cache was found within days, and the idea quickly spread across the globe. Since then, millions of geocaches have been hidden and found on every continent, including Antarctica.

I started my geocaching journey in August 2010, so I recently celebrated my 15(th) anniversary of playing the game. Over the years, this amazing hobby has taken me on unforgettable adventures to faraway countries, showing me beautiful places that I would otherwise never have discovered and introducing me to countless outstanding caches and creative hides along the way.

In 2021, I had the chance to visit Iceland for the first time and was captivated by its dramatic landscapes and unique geocaching locations. Now, I'm thrilled to return once again and explore even more of what this incredible country has to offer, both above and below the lava fields!
