One of the privileges of being the SLAGA president is the opportunity to pick the location for the first event of the year. After much thought, I have decided on hosting the event, way north in St. Louis County, at Fort Bell Fontaine. So come and spend some time outdoors, and maybe swap some Cachemas stories. This event is a meet-and-greet before the hiking begins and everyone is welcome, whether you plan on trekking or not.
The posted coordinates are for the top of the Grand Staircase with available parking along the road (per our resident SLCP liason). Upon entering the park, there is a guard shack. Just tell the attendant that you are there to hike the trail. We plan on meeting at 1:00 p.m. with a picture taken on the steps soon after. We'll hang around and visit until 1:30 p.m. or so, with snacks and drinks provided.
From there folks can take the 2.7 mile loop trail in one direction or the other and end up where they started. The trails in the park are level, gravel and well defined, so enjoying the day should be easy. Come prepared for a great time!
