Geocache Description:

Edward John Eyre was a 19th century explorer of inland South Australia, making three expeditions in 1839 and 1840. Numerous landmarks bear his name, including Lake Eyre and the Eyre Peninsula. In later life he was also the Colonial Governor in New Zealand and Jamaica.

At the listed coordinates is a statue of Eyre depicted holding what is a predecessor to the GPSr. On it is the name of the sculptor and a four-digit number A. You can find the cache at:

S 33° 25.(A – 1596) E 151° 21.(A – 1253)

The cache is a short scramble down the hill from the statue. The container is a black 1 litre Duratech instrument case with a pencil included.

This geocache was part of GC Project: It's Raining Caches 2025.

The project's aim was to create a rain of new geocaches to fall from the sky across the state of NSW at 9am on 19th January 2025 - 1 week before Sydney Geoquest, the first Block Party in the Southern Hemisphere.

Many legendary hiders came together to generously contribute their finest geocaches to build excitement and connection amongst the community and for all finders to enjoy years after the event.

This geocache helped make it rain.

This cache made it rain for GC Project IRC 2025.
