Hola geocacher, bienvenido a la plaza más bonita de Mendoza. Te invito a un mystery cache que se soluciona in situ y que te mostrará un poco de su hermosa decoración. Pero primero te cuento algo sobre la historia del lugar.
Historia de la plaza
Después del terremoto de 1861, que destruyó gran parte de Mendoza, fueron creadas cinco plazas nuevas. Una central de cuatro hectáreas (Plaza Independencia) y cuatro plazas satélites: Plaza San Martín, Plaza Chile, Plaza Italia y Plaza España.
Esta última, antes de tomar su nombre actual, se llamaba Plaza Montevideo y luego Plaza Carlos Pellegrini. En 1947 la colectividad española de Mendoza donó el Monumento a la Confraternidad Española-Argentina realizado por el escultor español Luis Bartolomé Somoza. El monumento muestra dos figuras principales: una mujer que simboliza a España y una joven que simboliza a Argentina.
También se construyó una fuente central, típica de los patios andaluces, y se decoraron con azulejos de tipo sevillano casi todas las superficies que puedes encontrar (por ejemplo pisos, bebederos, asientos y el zócalo del monumento). El friso muestra distintos momentos históricos como el descubrimiento de América y la fundación de Mendoza en 1561, así como extractos de las obras literarias más significativas de los dos países: Don Quijote y El Gaucho Martín Fierro.
La plaza fue remodelada varias veces, preservando siempre su pintoresco carácter andaluz. No hay ninguna duda de que la Plaza España es la más bonita de Mendoza. Este geocache te mostrará algunos de los hermosos azulejos, específicamente los que están un poco escondiditos y los que tal vez estas pisando en este momento.

Dear geocacher, welcome to the most beautiful square in Mendoza. I invite you to a mystery cache that is solvable on-site and that will show you some of the square’s pretty decorations. But first a little bit about the place’s history.
History of the square
After the earthquake of 1861 that destroyed a large part of Mendoza, five new squares were created. A four-hectare central square (Plaza Independencia) and four satellites: Plaza San Martín, Plaza Chile, Plaza Italia and Plaza España.
Before its current name, the latter used to be called Plaza Montevideo and later Plaza Carlos Pellegrini. In 1947, Mendoza’s Spanish community donated a Monument to the Spanish-Argentine Brotherhood made by the Spanish sculptor Luis Bartolomé Somoza. It depicts two main figures: an woman who symbolises Spain and a younger woman who represents Argentina.
The square boasts a fountain, typical of Andalusian patios, and Sevillian-style tiles decorating almost every surface (for example the pavement, drinking fountains, benches and the monument’s pedestal). The pedestal displays different historical events, such as the discovery of America and the founding of Mendoza in 1561, as well as excerpts from the two countries' most significant literary works: Don Quijote and El Gaucho Martín Fierro.
The site was refurbished several times, always maintaining its picturesque Andalusian character. There is no doubt that Plaza España is the prettiest square in Mendoza. This geocache will show you beautiful tiles that are somewhat hidden and those you may be stepping on right now.

Historie náměstí
Po zemětřesení v roce 1861, které zničilo velkou část Mendozy, bylo navrženo pět nových náměstí. Čtyřhektarové centrální náměstí (Plaza Independencia) a čtyři satelity: Plaza San Martín, Plaza Chile, Plaza Italia a Plaza España.
Poslední zmíněné se před získáním současného názvu jmenovalo Plaza Montevideo a později Plaza Carlos Pellegrini. V roce 1947 věnovala mendozská španělská komunita pomník španělsko-argentinského bratrství, vytvořený španělským sochařem Luisem Bartolomé Somozou. Zobrazuje dvě hlavní postavy: starší ženu symbolizující Španělsko a mladší ženu, která představuje Argentinu.
Náměstí se pyšní fontánou, typickou pro andaluské terasy, a dlaždicemi v sevilském stylu zdobícími téměř každý povrch, na který zde narazíte (např. chodník, pítka, lavičky či podstavec pomníku). Podstavec vyobrazuje různé historické události, například objevení Ameriky a založení Mendozy v roce 1561, dále pak úryvky z nejvýznamnějších literárních děl obou zemí: Don Quijote a El Gaucho Martín Fierro.
Náměstí se dočkalo několika rekonstrukcí, pričemž byl vždy zachován jeho malebný andaluský ráz. Není pochyb o tom, že Plaza España je nejhezčí náměstí v Mendoze. Tato keška vám ukáže krásné dlaždice, které jsou poněkud schované, a ty, na které právě teď možná šlapete.
COMO LLEGAR AL CACHÉ
Desde las coordenadas iniciales, dirígete en sentido horario alrededor de la plaza, busca detrás de los asientos murados y encontrarás, uno por uno, los seis mosaicos en la imagen abajo. Ordénalos correctamente y obtendrás seis letras numeradas con seis colores distintos. Esto te servirá para la próxima tarea.
HOW TO GET TO THE CACHE
No need to speak Spanish. From the initial coordinates, go clockwise around the square, look behind the tiled benches and you will find, one by one, the six mosaics in the image below. Put them in the right order and you will get six numbered letters with six different colours. You’ll need them for the next task.
JAK NA KEŠKU
Netřeba umět španělsky. Vydejte se z úvodních souřadnic po směru hodinových ručiček okolo náměstí a za zděnými lavičkami najděte, jednu po druhé, mozaiky z obrázku níže. Seřaďte je podle pořadí a získáte šest očíslovaných písmen se šesti různými barvami. Budete je potřebovat pro další úkol.

Segunda tarea
Mira la imagen de abajo y luego mira debajo de tus pies (suponiendo que estás en la Plaza España). En la imagen, nota que los azulejitos marcados con una letra están editados, se ha cambiado un color en cada uno. Encuentra los azulejitos correspondientes en el piso, identifica los colores correctos y únelos con los números en la imagen de la primera tarea. Ejemplo: G es blanco, por lo tanto G6.
Haciendo ambas tareas, obtendrás 26 letras numeradas. Escribe la secuencia sin espacios y puntuación (A1B2C3...) e ingresala en Certitude. Si hiciste todo correctamente, Certitude te dirá donde buscar el caché. Si no tienes internet móvil, puedes usar el wifi gratuito en la plaza o el de Starbucks en la esquina. El caché es disponible de lunes a viernes de 9:00 a 19:00 y domingo de 9:00 a 15:00.
Second task
Look at the image below, then look under your feet (assuming you're at Plaza España). On the image, notice that the tiles marked with a letter are edited, one colour has been changed on each one. Find the corresponding tiles on the floor, identify the correct colours and match them with the numbers on the image from task one. Example: G is white, so G6.
By doing both tasks, you will obtain 26 numbered letters. Type the sequence without spaces and punctuation (A1B2C3...) and plug it into Certitude. If you did everything correctly, Certitude will tell you where to find the cache. If you don't have mobile data, there’s free wifi at the square or at Starbucks on the corner. The cache is available daily from 9am to 7pm, Sunday from 9am to 3pm.
Druhý úkol
Podívejte se na obrázek níže a pak se podívejte pod nohy (za předpokladu, že jste na Plaza España). Na obrázku si všimněte, že dlaždičky označené písmenem jsou pozměněné, na každé byla změněna jedna barva. Najděte odpovídající dlaždičky na náměstí, určete správné barvy a spojte je s čísly na obrázku z prvního úkolu. Příklad: G je bílá, takže G6.
Z obou úkolů získáte 26 očíslovaných písmen. Napište sekvenci bez mezer a interpunkce (A1B2C3...) a zadejte ji do Certitude. Pokud máte všechno správně, dozvíte se, kam pro keš. Pokud nemáte mobilní data, na náměstí či ve Starbucksu na rohu je wifi zdarma. Keš je dostupná denně od 9:00 do 19:00 a v neděli od 9:00 do 15:00.
