Geocache Description:

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is one of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time.  The movie was set in Chicago, where the outdoor scenes were to be filmed on location. Because of an unusually warm and dry Midwestern winter, many outdoor scenes had yet to be shot by the time spring rolloed around.  A lSummit County local, who was part of the camera crew, suggested shooting the scenes here.  So the film crew descended on Summit County to finish the film and managed to do so, in spite of the 17 feet of snow that fell during the shoot.

This geocache marks where two scenes were filmed.  The first was the end of the snow saucer sequence where Clark slides down a hill (Peak 8 at nearby Breckenridge Ski Area) on a saucer coated with a non-stick food additive. The downhill descent ends with Clark sliding across Summit Boulevard and crashing into a toy donation box in the Wal Mart parking lot.  An scene was also filmed inside the store - the one where Clark offers to buy the gifts that Cousin Eddie cannot afford, while Eddie piles the shopping cart with enough dry dog food for his whole familiy.

Happy hunting for the geocache!.
