Take a Flier
Today I Learned (TIL) I didn't understand the meaning of the phrase, "Taking a Flier."
Apparently, it means taking a chance on something that could go either way, good or bad, especially a financial risk.
I mistakenly thought it meant tripping head over heels. For example, "He stumbled over the Geocache's ammo can and took a flier down the gully and into the creek."
Rest assured, there's no gully and no creek here. It's easy terrain.
I hope you'll stop by and take a flier.
