Geocache Description:

In honour of the WW1 soldiers named on the Keyworth Memorial on Nottingham Road - the 3 new housing estates Keyworth Rise, Nicker Hill and Spinners Croft all take their street names from the soldiers who gave thier lives in World War One.  These caches are placed in honour of their memories - the fallen soldiers are all local to Keyworth in some way.  Many of these families were long established in the small community of Keyworth (787 total population made up of 372 males and 415 female - as in 1911 census summary books).

Albert Derrick -  Albert was born in Keyworth in 1898 to John & Jane Derrick (nee Hodgett) - (both born in Keyworth) and were married in Keyworth in 1887. (They both had previously been married. John to Mary Cross and Jane to Joseph Simpson -  Jane's two sons were professional cricketers and footballers - Walter and Thomas Simpson).  Albert's siblings were Ethel & Edith.  His Fathers parents were John & Deborah Derrick (nee Disney).  His Mothers parents were John & Mary Hodgett .

Albert is seen on the census for Keyworth - 1901 - Plumtree Road (Nottingham Road) Albert aged 3.  1911 Deepdale Lane (Debdale Lane) Albert aged 13.  In 1921 His widowed mother Jane can be found on Debdale Lane with his sisters Ethel & Edith - his father had died in November 1918. Jane is with her daughter Edith in 1939 still at 1 Debdale Lane, she died in 1941.

Albert Derrick -  42713 Gunner Royal Field Artillery, 'A' Battery 152nd Brigade. Sadly Alberts army documents have not survived. He died after the war had ended. There was an highly contagious outbreak of influenza - Spanish flu  in 1918 and many military personnel died from this. His death was 4th March 1919 aged 21 years, and is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery. He was awarded the British War Medal & Victory medals. He was the cousin of Clifford Derrick also named on the memorial.

Derrick Close is named in his (and Clifford's) honour on the new housing estate at Keyworth Rise off Bunny Lane.

The Cache  - This is a straight forward cache placed across from the cottages on Debdale Lane where the family lived for many years.
