Geocache Description:

After my previous iterations of the Cheese Series, it was suggested that I should pair it with a Wine Series.  My palate isn't nearly sophisticated enough to describe anything other than your basic plonk. But I do enjoy a good ale so I will embark upon a brief history of some of my favourite beers over the years.

During my university years, I tended bar at a pub owned by a couple of ex-Brits in Kingston, ON known as The Pilot House. It was a favourite haunt of local sailors, rugby and soccer players and university profs and students alike.  It served British standards such as fish and chips and steak and kidney pie and the favoured tipple of regulars on tap was “Toby”, an amber ale brewed by the Charrington Brewery in London, UK since the 18th Century. It was considered quite the exotic beer at the time as darker ales were not common nor part of the Canadian beer palate at the time.

A nice quick diversion after visiting the nearby big box.
