We love to hike! This is the sixth in a series of caches highlighting our favorite places to hike in the Olympia area. We like out of the way spots of natural beauty where we can spend our Sundays or summer afternoons. All in this series are trails which are easily accessible, not too long, and are easy for young people to do.
The sixth in this series is Grass Lake Nature Park, Olympia's second largest park and a great spot for quiet walking and birding. This trail is NOT dog-friendly; please observe the posted rules to protect wildlife. Please stay close to the trail so as to minimize damage to plant and animal life. Cache is a small container, easily accessible just a few steps off of the trail.
The loop trail that extends through Grass Lake is currently under construction (March 2025). We suggest going clockwise through the loop to reach the cache as the second half (or the first if you go counter-clockwise) has a gravel road in the process of being built which intersects with the trail in several spots and makes it difficult to find the right way to continue along the loop.
Enjoy!
