Poltimore House is a Grade II* listed 16th century country house set in 13 acres outside Exeter in Devon.
The house was originally built for Richard Bampfylde in 1560 and the Treaty of Exeter was signed at the House in 1646.
Poltimore House was used as a school and hospital in the 20th century, before becoming vacant and experiencing arson attacks in 1987 and 2024.
Poltimore House and Grounds was acquired by the Poltimore House Trust with funding from English Heritage and East Devon District Council in 2000.
Facing the east front of the House is a great, spreading Japanese Red Cedar and several specimens of Monkey Puzzle. From the viewpoint steps you can look into the Arboretum with its magnificent trees.
Dogs on leads are very welcome, and there’s a poo bin next to the path to the toilets.
Entrance to the Café and Grounds is free (except for special events).
The House welcome donations to support the restoration of the House & Grounds.
