Geocache Description:

The Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Education and Visitor Center includes an exhibit area that interprets for visitors the rich natural and cultural resources featured in the park.

Elsa Kimbell for whom the center is named was an active state park volunteer locally and at the state level. She served on the steering committee formed to establish the Friends of Florida State Parks, Inc. and later became its first president. After her service on the board, she helped form the Friends of Jonathan Dickinson State Park, later becoming president of that organization, as well.

The center has been providing community groups with outstanding educational programming since its opening in 2007. Volunteers and staff are on duty in the Kimbell Center from 9 am – 5 pm daily ready to guide visitors to the recreational opportunity that best suits them and provide additional information to enrich their park visit.

With a focus on the park’s natural and cultural history, the center offers programs, workshops, and exhibits that engage visitors of all ages. From interactive displays to ranger-led programs, the center provides valuable insights into the ecological processes and historical narratives of the park, enriching visitors' experiences and fostering a deeper connection with the environment.
