Geocache Description:

TAKE CARE. The site has precipitous, unprotected, cliff edges and a fall would be fatal. This is not the place for unsupervised children. The cache is in a small wadi well away from the cliff edge. The route is along the recognised cliff top path but not close to the edge. There is no need to stray from the path until you enter the safety of a wadi.

This site and route is described in Ionis Thompson’s book page 10. It is extremely popular and most visitors to Riyadh pay it an early call. The views are outstanding. It presents no driving difficulties to those vehicles with adequate ground clearance. I have seen saloons at the car park but don't know how they got there.

Leave the tarmac road at N24°55.040; E46°28.803. Park at the point where Scarinian tethered Jorvic. The route from the car park directly to the cache is for the Shannon Gazelle only. It is difficult and misses the drama of the location. The Ed Oryx, preferring pleasure to speed, will follow the route Scarinian took. Following this route you will almost complete a “U”.

The following extract is taken from the log of Scarinian: I reached the end of the road at N24°56.691; E45°59.550 dismounted, tethered Jorvic and drew the Enchanted Sword of Scalim. To my left I could see a huge cliff and so I opted for the easier route to the right and up. A brisk walk soon brought me to the top of the hill and what met my eyes were the most dramatic views. But this was not a time to loiter. Above soared eagles and ravens, a bad portent. I followed the path around the cliff. I could hear the Decato Sirens summoning me to the cliff edge but I would have none of it (see GCB15B). I walked to the far side of this hill, descended into a small valley and climbed up the hill on the other side. I paused at the top. To my left I could see the saddle leading to Decato’s Folly but then recalled the words of the Old Widow Hag of Kingdom “Those before you have been tempted to Decato’s Folly but they were not of this quest and that place has no purpose for you. Rather go inland and find a wadi for this provides a better place for those that follow” I carried on around the hill until I came upon a wadi on my right and descended into it and found a rock ledge under which I concealed the Royal Vase of Riyadh.
