Geocache Description:

25th Anniversary

This cache is one in a series to honour the 25th anniversary of Geocaching [May 3, 2000-May 3, 2025]

History:

Geocaching was conceived shortly after the removal of Selective Availability from the Global Positioning System on May 2, 2000, because the improved accuracy of the system allowed for a small container to be specifically placed and located. The first documented placement of a GPS-located cache took place on May 3, 2000, by Dave Ulmer of Beavercreek, Oregon. The location was posted on the Usenet newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav at 45°17.460′N 122°24.800′W. Within three days, the cache had been found twice, first by Mike Teague. According to Dave Ulmer's message, this cache was a black plastic bucket that was partially buried and contained software, videos, books, money, a can of beans, and a slingshot.

Current:

Today (3 May 2025), 5 years since inception, there are more than 3 million active geocaches worldwide, hidden in 191 different countries on all seven continents (there has even been one in space!), comprising 20 different types & icons. More than 642 million "Found it" and "Event Attended" logs have been recorded since the game started in 2000. As well, several million geocacher accounts have been set up during this time.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
