CELEBRATING: MARCH EQUINOX

WHERE:ย McDonalds (South City)ย DATE:ย Saturday 22 March 2025ย WHEN:ย 11:00AM-11:30AM (Possibly going a bit later)

Come and have a catchup with your local caching buddies at the South City Usual

Welcome the arrival of the equinox in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres with a unique souvenir! Geocaching HQ has a special new March equinox souvenir just for you. From March 20-23, 2025, find one geocache, Event Cache, or Adventure Labยฎ Location to earn your souvenir. This year, we celebrate the changing of the seasons with souvenir artwork inspired by crowned cranes from each hemisphere. Cranes represent migratory patterns and seasonal change. Northern Hemisphere: The Red-crowned crane represents harmony and the balance of life. Southern Hemisphere: The Grey crowned crane represents change and a renewal of life. Whatever changes this season brings, we hope you find peace in the transition and joy in your next geocache find. How will you celebrate the equinox?

The March equinox marks a moment of balance in Earthโ€™s orbit with nearly equal amounts of daylight worldwide. It symbolizes transition, marking the start of spring in the northern hemisphere and the start of autumn in the southern hemisphere. Around the world, itโ€™s celebrated as a time of interconnectedness, reminding us of our shared experience, regardless of hemisphere. Whether you will celebrate a spring equinox or an autumn equinox this March, plan to include geocaching in your equinox celebrations to earn a souvenir!

The equinox happens twice a year when the Sun shines directly over the equator. It occurs because of Earthโ€™s tilt on its axis as it orbits the Sun. When Earth reaches a certain point in its orbit, neither the North nor the South Pole is tilted towards the Sun, making the sunlight spread evenly over the Earthโ€™s surface. This celestial event helps us understand more about our planet and its journey around the Sun!
