Kinshachi #2
The golden "shachihoko" ("Kinshachi") that decorates the castle tower, which can be said to be the symbol of Nagoya.
When the castle tower was completed in 1612, a gorgeous golden shachi was placed to show off the authority of the Tokugawa family.A pure gold plate is attached, and the current value is about 1.3 million U.S. dollars!
Unfortunately, the first Kinshachi was destroyed by fire during the war. Luckily, remnants of the fire were found, and although they were recovered by GHQ, they were later returned to Nagoya City. The cinders were refined and turned into gold tea kettles, which are on display at the GZ Chatei.

金シャチ #2
名古屋城の、いや名古屋のシンボルともいえる天守閣を飾る金のしゃちほこ。
1612年に天守閣が完成した際、尾張徳川家の権威を誇示するため、豪華絢爛な金鯱がのせられました。金箔ではなく純金の板が張り付けられており、現在の価値になおすとおおよそ18億円！ここまで贅沢に施された金シャチは他にはありません。東海道や美濃街道をいく旅人も、その輝きを望見することができ、熱田の浜には金鯱の光で魚がよりつかなくなったとか。
残念ながら初代金シャチは名古屋大空襲により焼失。運よく燃え残りが見つかり、一度GHQに回収されたものの、後々名古屋市に返還されました。その燃えがらは精錬され、金の茶釜となりGZの茶亭にて展示されています。
お隣の茶亭ではお抹茶も頂けますのでゆっくりしていってね。毎週金曜日は金の茶釜でお抹茶を点ててくれますよ。
