Geocache Description:

San Andrés is a village on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, located on the coast at the base of the Anaga mountains, about 7 km northeast of the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is one of the oldest villages in the Canary Islands, founded around 1498. Originally inhabited by the Guanches, the area was known as Abicor and Ibaute. After the Spanish conquest, the name San Andrés became established, named after Saint Andrew.

The land was granted to Lope de Salazar after the conquest, who built a chapel between 1505 and 1510 that became the foundation of today’s church. The village later built the Castle of San Andrés to defend against pirate attacks, as it had previously been used as a pirate port. In 1797, villagers helped defend the island against an attack by Admiral Horatio Nelson.

In the 19th century, San Andrés was an independent municipality until it was annexed by Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1850. During the Franco era, the village experienced harsh repression. In the 1970s, Las Teresitas beach was developed with imported sand from the Sahara. Since the 2000s, there have been efforts to transform San Andrés into a major tourist destination.

We wanted to discover this road but only reached this dead end. Now atleast there should be a cache to log!
