This cache is intended to introduce people to a great park, and commemorate some of the fun adventures our Wild and Free group has had here!
At our Event Cache, GCB331A Wild and Free Homeschool Group Meet-up, OxSling and Diggin' Up Bones gave a great intro to Geocaching to our homeschooling group! Hapersmion and Maggalynn are geocachers and also members of this great group, where we try to give our kids plenty of chances for free play and exploration, particularly out in nature! We have been meeting at Paschal Carter Park once a month for almost a year now, and we've loved seeing how it has changed with the seasons! Please enjoy this beautiful park as you search for the stages of this cache!
After learning what Geocaching is and seeing the cool equipment brought by our expert guests, all the kids in the group had a chance to design a cache of their own! You aren't required to find every container - the log is only in the last one - but if you do you'll have a greater appreciation for this park, and you'll also get to check out the swag that each child chose! Some of the kids wrote little notes as well. Inside the containers you will find a note with coordinates, but they are also posted here. Several of the containers were Muggled before I even had a chance to finalize the cache, so if you can't find one, that might be the reason.
Please keep yourself safe when searching. This is a natural area, with thorns, wildlife, unstable footing, and even a cave! You don't have to go into the cave - our kids have never gotten hurt in there, but I can't guarantee that it will stay safe over time!
There is parking available just off the road, on both sides of the stream. There's a playground, picnic tables, and even a Little Free Library in the pavilion. (Maybe bring a book or two!) But there are no bathrooms!
The caches were hidden by kids from preschool age to fifth grade! All the containers will be different sizes and shapes.
As you start your walk, take moment to check out the historic waterwheel and listen to the waterfall!
For the first cache, walk along a ways. What are they doing here with this log? Will it be a bench, or is it meant to decompose?
Further on, check out the interesting quarry-like meadow. A great place for a picnic in dry weather! In freezing weather, look for frost flowers among the plants between the path and the stream! And in wet weather, look for weird dark green algae in the grass - very squishy!
